Ed Hauldren is the general manager and one of the senior technicians at N.I.S. Ed’s first exposure in NDT started at the age of 14 when he assisted technicians in oilfield tubular inspections during summer break. At 15 he ran the darkroom while x-raying pipelines. After graduating from Marshall University in 1979 with an Associate’s Degree in Management, he began full-time employment with N.I.S. He is certified as a level II in ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetant, remote visual, visual, ground-penetrating radar, subsurface interface radar, vibratory stress relieving and weld conditioning. Since starting full-time at N.I.S., he has worked with many different facets of industry involving NDT that include inland and off-shore drilling platforms, coal, power, chemical, petroleum, automotive, transportation, plastics, steel, aluminum, infrastructure projects and construction, timber and wood. He has held certifications with OSHA, ANSI, AWS, API, ASNT, Crane Institute of America, and Hellier Technical Training and Consulting. Nondestructive Inspection Service’s customers can profit greatly from Ed’s 35 plus years of experience in these industries.
Patrick Kinder is an AWS CWI and ASME level II with N.I.S. Patrick is a qualified NDT technician and holds the ASNT TC1A level II certification in ultrasonic, magnetic particle and liquid penetrant methods. Pat is no stranger to welding inspection having spent 40 years as a level II and 20 years as an AWS CWI. He is also a certified above-ground storage tank inspector through the Steel Tank Institute and also holds certifications in subsurface interface radar through Geophysical Systems, vibratory stress relief through Metalax and infared thermography.
Patrick has more than 40 years of experience in the wood, coal, chemical and oil and gas industries. Drawing on his many years of experience in various industries, Patrick can aid his clients in finding solutions to a wide variety of problems.
James (Jim) Whittington is a Nondestructive Testing Technician with N.I.S. In this role, Jim coordinates, manages and leads in providing quality inspections with all aspects of NDT and OSHA inspections and is a qualified ASNT-TC-1A Level ll Inspector holding certifications for ultrasonics, magnetic particle, penetrant testing, along with inspection certifications for OSHA and ANSI on mobile cranes, overhead cranes and aerial lift inspection and safety from Conam, Heiller and Crane Institute of America. He also holds certifications for GPS or SIR from Geophysical Survey Systems, Inc. (GSSI), and vibratory stress relieving and weld conditioning from Metalax, Inc.
Jim has serviced the coal, oil, steel, chemical and wood industries in a wide range of their production equipment. Jim has helped these industry leaders to establish safe and consistently-running equipment to ensure all aspects of their equipment are in top quality working condition. Jim’s varied background in these industries has provided the perfect groundwork for an excellent experience in all characteristics of inspections.
Steve Barnett is the Office Manager at N.I.S. with responsibilities including job scheduling, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, invoicing, report preparation and customer service.
Steve retired from Union Carbide/Dow Chemical after 27 years of service, with positions including Instrument Technician (7 yrs.), Operations Technician / Shift Supervisor (10 yrs.), Materials / Process Coordinator & Payroll Liaison (10 yrs.). Steve obtained his Materials/Process Coordinator certification through the U.S. Department of Labor. While at Dow, Steve developed an electronic inventory control system to track daily use and delivery of raw materials.
Earl Roberts is an ASNT-TC-1A Technician with N.I.S. He holds Level II certifications in PT, MT, and UT from Hellier NDT. He is experienced in the steel, coal, chemical, oil, and wood industries. Earl worked as a lead granite countertop installer, many of which were installed in upscale homes. Attention to detail was crucial in that profession, as it is in nondestructive testing. Using this attention to detail, coupled with great work ethic and professionalism, Earl provides quality inspection services to prevent possible injury as well as excess lost production.
Talon Roberts is an ASNT-TC-1A Technician with N.I.S. He holds level II certification for MT and PT from Hellier NDT. Talon attended The University of Mississippi for three years. Shortly after, he went to work as a millwright/welder in the wood products industry for two years. While at an OSB mill, he met Ed Hauldren and was offered a position with the N.I.S. team. Talon jumped at the opportunity to be part of such a highly esteemed business as well as the chance to learn from such excellent inspectors. Since the start of his tenure, he has accumulated experience in the chemical, coal, petroleum, steel, automotive and wood industries. Talon provides hard work and superb inspections no matter the conditions.
Caleb Townsend is an ASNT-TC-1A Technician with N.I.S. He holds level II certification for MT and PT from Hellier NDT. Caleb studied Welding Technology at Putnam County Technical Center for two years, graduating in 2004. He also attended Marshall Community and Technical College for one year, graduating in 2007 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Technical Studies (A.A.S.-T.S.) for machinists. He previously worked at his family’s motorcycle dealership as a technician for 15 years starting at the age of 15. Since the start of his tenure with N.I.S., he has accumulated experience in the chemical, coal, petroleum, steel, automotive and wood industries.
